Here Comes "Nuke" LaLoosh

The Reel Deal on Bull Durham

Faces of the Film: Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins

What's the Reel Deal?: Bull Durham takes us into the quest for the majors. A rag-tag team with a love for the game comes together to share their passion. A young and talented pitcher who is a prospect for the majors needs to work on fixing his game. A veteran is brought to the team to guide him through the ins and outs of major league baseball.

Standing on the Podium: Silver. This one has a lot of laughs and complete nonsense attached to the game. However, one thing the movie does a great job of is showing the world the dreams, aspirations and pains of a life in baseball. If you haven't seen this one it is worth a watch.

Wild Thing...You Make My Heart Sing

The Reel Deal on Major League

Faces of the Film: Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen and Corbin Bernsen

What's the Reel Deal?: Major League brings us something that none of our other films have. Major League takes us to the pros. The only problem of course is that this film tracks the worst baseball team in history. A blend of the worst players in the league all come together to show what a baseball team is really made of.

Standing on the Podium: Bronze. This one is filled with some great laughs but for baseball fans out there the movie almost turns the sport itself into a joke. Take it or leave it.

If you build it, he will come

The Reel Deal on Field of Dreams

Faces of the Film: Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones and Ray Liotta

What's the Reel Deal?: This one is a strange blend. Without a doubt one of the great baseball flicks. An Iowa corn farmer starts hearing voices and decides to decimate his fields in order to build a baseball diamond. Everyone thinks he is crazy until some unexpected guests begin to show up and play on the diamond. The Chicago White Sox!

Standing on the Podium: Silver. This movie dives into some history of baseball and passes along the passion that people can have for the game. James Earl Jones and Costner deliver a stellar performance. Definitely worth checking out.

The Sandlot

The Reel Deal on The Sandlot

Faces of the Film: Tom Guiry, Mike Vitar and Patrick Renna

What's the Reel Deal?: The Sandlot is a throwback to all the kids that have ever played neighborhood baseball. The story of a young group of kids that dare to get their long last balls back from the grouchy neighborhood senior and his menacing dog.

Standing on the Podium: Silver. This movie warms the heart and brings back fond memories of childhood exploits. It is a great movie for the family that the kids will enjoy but it is a kids film and lacks some of the nitty gritty nature that baseball has to offer. If you haven't ever seen it give it a shot.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...

The Reel Deal on Star Wars

Faces of the Film:  Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher

What's the Reel Deal?: Star Wars hit the box office by storm in the late 70's. Everyone saw this film and for the younger generation most saw it several times. The age old story of a damsel in distress done in space. All the key characters are there: the smuggler, the wizard, the knight, the monster, and of course a deep dark villain.

Standing on the Podium: Gold. Since it's original release Star Wars has given birth to a seemingly endless franchise. If you have never seen the film that started it all, forget all the hype, sit back, and enjoy a fun filled action/sci-fi/adventure flick. If you have seen it before...go watch it again. This one embodies everything that a summer blockbuster would hope to be.

What Do Booby Traps, Nazis and Biblical Artifacts Have In Common?

The Reel Deal on 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'

Faces of the Film: Harrison Ford, Karen Allen and Paul Freeman

What's the Reel Deal?: George Lucas steps out of space and into adventure. The tale of an everyday superhero of sorts. Dr. Jones is an esteemed archaeologist by day and a temple raider by night. Fighting off danger and disaster wherever he goes in the hopes of obtaining yet another long lost artifact. In this first film of the series Indiana Jones is off in search of the long lost Ark of the Covenant.

Standing on the Podium: Gold. If you have never experienced an Indiana Jones flick you need to check this one out. Arguably the best of the 4 film series this film will make you laugh, cheer and cling to your seat with excitement the whole way through. Go get this film!!!

Who You Gonna Call?

The Reel Deal on 'Ghostbusters'

Faces of the Film:  Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis.

What's the Reel Deal?: Ghostbusters came out of  nowhere. This fun filled story is all about what happens if NYC gets mobbed by otherworldly residents. From booger colored spectres to 40 foot Stay Puffed Marshmallow men, Ghostbusters had it all.

Standing on the Podium: Gold. This movie brings the laughs, excitement and special effects that everyone would want in a good summer blockbuster. If you haven't had a chance to check out Ghostbusters you are goning to want to check this one out!

Summer Blockbuster Phone Home!

The Reel Deal on 'E.T.'

Faces of the Film: Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore and Peter Coyote

What's the Reel Deal?: E.T. took us to a place few films had gone before. What if aliens did come to our planet? What if they weren't looking to attack but to study and research? What if we were the ones who went on the attack? So many questions to ask and this film tackles them all.

Standing on the Podium: Gold. This film is one of the crowing jewels in Spielberg's career. A great film with a fun message. The little alien can come across as slightly creepy but Spielberg tempers it well with his passion for Reese's Pieces.

The Summer of the Shark!

The Reel Deal on 'Jaws'

Faces of the Film: Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss

What's the Reel Deal?: This summer thriller rocked the box office. The shark attack of all shark attacks. The age old tale of man vs nature. A blood thirsty shark attacks the remote coastal town of Amity. Standing in his way are a police chief, a marine biologist and an old grumpy fisherman. A classic was born.

Standing on the Podium: Gold. If you haven't seen this one yet it is a must see. The soundtrack is one of the all-time greatest. Stellar performances take a potentially cheesy plot and give it some substance. Jaws is a must see!

Let's Get Persian!

The Reel Deal on "Prince of Persia"

Faces of the Film: Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton and Ben Kingsley

What's the Reel Deal?: Jerry Bruckheimer produces this big budget summer epic based on the events of the Prince of Persia game. He pulls in a great cast and the film actually carries a legitimate screenplay that was written to be a movie but draws all the essentials from the game.

Standing on the Podium: Gold. This is a great flick to end the week on. If you haven't had a chance to see this one give it a shot as it is one of the few gaming films that actually delivers. A great cast, good plot and sizeable budget all pair up to make this a must see.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

The Reel Deal on Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D

Faces of the Film: Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter and Wentworth Miller

What's the Reel Deal?: This one is the latest in a series of films created from the series Resident Evil. The main character Alice works her way through one hopeless situation for humanity after another. She battles against the evil Umbrella corporation who in the attempts to create a rejuvenating cosmetic accidentally create a world full of zombies and genetically altered super-undead.

Standing on the Podium: Silver. The fact that the series has been able to spawn a couple of spin-offs is due largely to the fact that the series fits into a zombie horror style of film. With the films fun take on a classic genre along with a good cast and some great special effects this one is worth seeing but not a must see by any means.

Issa Me...Mario!

The Reel Deal on "Super Mario Bros"

Faces of the Film: Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo and Dennis Hopper

What's the Reel Deal?: This was a movie that came with high hopes. One of the biggest video game franchises of all time comes to the big screen. With a great cast and a big budget there were high hope indeed for this video game adaptation.

Standing on the Podium: Bronze. This one fell short of the aspirations and hype. There are some fun plugs that game fans will be able to appreciate but the obscure plot, poorly written dialogue and general overall cheese factor warrant this one to be a take it or leave it instead of the must see potential we had all hoped it would live up to.

True Tekken

The Reel Deal on Tekken

Faces of the Film:  Jon Foo, Kelly Overton and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

What's the Reel Deal?: Tekken tells the story of a post apocalyptic world. Following a world war of devastating nature caused by greed major corporations now take the place of democratically elected leaders. The greatest corporation being Tekken. Jin Kazama's mother is killed by Tekken forces and decides to enter the Iron Fist tournament in order to exact his revenge.

Standing on the Podium: Bronze. Unlike most video game flicks out there this one has a plot. Unfortunately the tacky costumes and young cast don't do it justice. If you happen to see it lying around give it a watch but you don't need to go out of your way to see this one.

We're All DOOMed

The Reel Deal on Doom

Faces of the Film: Karl Urban, Rosamund Pike and Dwayne Johnson

What's the Reel Deal?: Here it is folks the attempt to bring one of the earliest video game successes onto the the big screen. This film has stuff loaded in. Jokes the gamers would get, a first person view to make it feel more game like, and special effects worthy of the budget. The only thing it was missing was a plot.

Standing on the Podium: Didn't Place. Doom, along with many video game films, promised much and failed to deliver. From the trailers it seemed as though there might be an Alien-esque quality brought to the film however that was not case. The attempt to bring this game to bring this to the big screen was an almost complete failure. Don't even bother watching this one and if you have already seen it on behalf of Dwayne Johnson I would like to apologise.

Say Hello To My Little Friend

The Reel Deal on Scarface

Faces of the Film:  Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer and Steven Bauer

What's the Reel Deal?: Scarface is a bit of a break from our other Mafia flicks. Changing from the scenery of the Italian and Irish Mafia Scarface takes us to the drug wars in Florida. Scarface is the tale of an immigrant who fights his way to the top.

Standing on the Podium: Gold. A warning for sure that this is one of the most violent gang films of all time. However, its raw nature and honest portrayal of how dark the crime world can be is what makes Scarface a must see. Just make sure that you are prepared for an abundance of language, violence, drug use and sexuality.
